Raindrops on Roses

The wonderful Josie over at Sleep is for the Weak has tagged me in the Happiness Meme that is doing the rounds at the moment, as did Hayley at Single Motherhood Challenges, and boy did it come at a good time! I definitely need to start focusing on the good stuff, so thank you both of you and I hope you enjoy my cheery post! šŸ™‚

1) Cups of tea

I’m not kidding. A cup of tea works wonders,Ā guaranteedĀ to fix all manner of woes and cheer me up! Though I shamefully gave up the tea pot in favour of a quick cuppa in the mug, mainly due to lazinessĀ time constraints and the amount of tea I drink, I still very much enjoy my cups of tea. I also gave up caffeine which meant having to quit Yorkshire Tea and Twinings Breakfast Tea, my favourites, in favour of Red Bush, but hey, my body is a temple and all that!

2) My friends

Yea, so I’m generic, what of it?! But it’s true, my friends do make me happy. I love that each of them is fantastic for totally different reasons; some make me laugh, some are a shoulder to cry on, some tell me to put my big girl pants on and get a grip! They are all truly fantastic, both real life friends and those on twitter, and you always make me smile. Thank you.

3) Kids

There is something about children that brings a huge smile to my face. When I see them in their buggies in the street, or charging around a shop or spend time with young relatives I can’t help but feel happy and fulfilled. It’s like chicken soup for the soul!

4) Shoes

oooooooooooh yea! Shoes are gooooood! I am a shoe person, always have been and even though I am developing an appreciation for handbags they will never replace shoes! I adore them, specifically ones with sky scraper heels and platforms (stripper shoes), but I also like ballet pumps andĀ sandalsĀ and boots, you get the idea! I love to look at them, and touch them and wear them, they’re so beautiful, they’re all like little works of art. These are my two favourite pairs!

5) My baby girl

This would be my Guinea Pig, Henrietta. As you may know, we lost Heidi at the start of February so we’ve been having lots of cuddles and kisses and I’m still hoping to get her a friend to give her someone to talk to. She’s my little baby and IĀ Ā spoil her rotten, but she deserves it because, even though she eats me out of house and home, she makes me smile with all her little quirks!

6) My Blog

Yep, generic and selfish all in one post! My blog does make me happy though; it gives me somewhere to vent, and somewhere to share my good news and has opened up a whole world of fun and expression. I’m loving taking part in Josie’s Writing Workshop and reading everyone else’s incredible posts, even though they put me to shame, and Tara’s Gallery which is allowing me to explore my photo obsession, and is going to result in me having to buy a very expensive camera! I’m thinking of hosting my own blog or something so that I can edit it a bit more and make it more personal but I’m not sure if I’ve got the techy know-how to do it, especially after Chrissie atĀ MediocreĀ Mum’s experience! Any advice would be greatly appreciated *awaits helpful comments from fellow geeks*. And while I’m asking for advice: How on earth do I put things on the side of my blog (i.e. Writing Workshop/Gallery/Secret Post Club badges)? Can I do it with just a basic wordpress blog? :s

7) Planning/Organising

I love it. I get great pleasure out of knowing what I’m doing every day for the next 3 years! I’m a bit of a control freak and I freak out if plans get changed, or something is sprung upon me but when everything goes to my super organised plan, I am the happiest little bunny ever! I have my entire wedding planned and it’s not until 2012, in fact I had it all planned last year! I love folders and files, post its, in fact I love…

8 ) Stationary

Oh yes, stationary is fabulous! I wander into Smith’s and am immediately drawn to the pretty pens, shiny note books, beautiful papers and the cute little rubbers. And then…last year, two of my friends introduced me to the heaven that is…PAPERCHASE! Where have I been all these years? Such a perfect store full of all my favourite things, it was love at first sight!

9) My Kink

Some people get all smiley after “being naughty”, I get all smiley after a good power exchange! I wont go into details so no need to avert your eyes!

10) My Religion

Does that make me sound like a religious nut?! Ah well, it’s true. I find great peace and happiness with a pentacle around my neck or meditating in front of my alter. Just wandering around my garden too, looking at how beautiful everything is. There is something comforting about being surrounded by nature and knowing that you are part of it.

And I am going to tag

Louise at Wee Wifie’s World who is developing a love for all things bloggy in her 3 week holiday

Samm at No One Else mainly to give her something to blog about šŸ˜›

Debs at Dopey Dee’s Blog because I know what irritates her from all her fab rants, so now I want to know what makes her smile

My OH at Herr Flik’s Webway because, even though he doesn’t blog, I think making a list of 10 things that make him happy will cheer him up!

Sami at Wishes, Fishes and all that’s inbetween (and here too when the other one is broken!)Ā because she’s trying to start blogging and smiles at EVERYTHING so this should be easy for her!

Tell me what makes you happy folks!

mmmm Pancakes

Well the past month has been a nightmare. The stress has made me physically ill and I’ve been an emotional wreck. But enough is enough, I have pulled myself together and have been very cheerful all week šŸ™‚

I have applied for a part-time job at Clarks but haven’t heard anything as yet. I’m going to look into voluntary work too to try and ease myself back into work. Considering that I haven’t been out on my own a lot over the past 2 years I don’t know what I am capable of, but I’m sure I’ll soon find out! I have started the moving on process so whatever happens I can get on with it, I’m enjoying the time on my own again and thinking straight. I’m also back on top of the housework, mostly!

On Monday I picked up Heidi from the vets in a beautifully carved box. They have done her proud. Henrietta seemed to know straight away that it was her sister and took about 10 minutes to mourn in front of the box when I got her out for a cuddle. She is still missing her greatly but seems to be getting there, we have had 2 days where she has been very active but some days she is still a bit low.

Yesterday was also pancake day! Yay! I whipped up some yummy pancakes, both savoury and crepe suzettes, and stuffed myself with them while despairing at the shambles that was the Brit Awards! They were delicious though and I have some left over for pudding tonight, oooh yea!

Heidi – A mini tribute

Sadly we lost Heidi this morning. She had deteriorated somewhat rapidly overnight and was struggling with breathing, we had made an appointment at the vets to have her put down but we didn’t make it, she passed away on my lap being fussed by both Stuart and I. We had done everything we could for her but the cancer was too much for her tiny body šŸ˜¦

We are having her cremated and possibly buried in France where she’d been on holiday twice and enjoyed herself greatly. She is going to be hugely missed, especially by her sister, but we are glad that she isn’t suffering any more. She has been a fantastic pet and companion and she was so loved.

There are some videos here and photos below, she was so beautiful.

01/02 I am officially hating 2010, if it carries on like this it is going to be a horrendous year. Today we took Heidi (the guinea pig) to the vets because she’s had a runny nose and eyes for the past two or three days and has been a bit legarthic. The vet checked her over and found a lump in her cheek pouch and thinks it is either a serious infection or lymphoma, she’s pretty much ruled out a tooth infection as her teeth are so healthy, but has taken some cells from the lump for analysis and given us some antibiotics to give her. I am hoping and praying that it’s not cancer but from what the vet said it sounds like it’s the most likely option given her age and overall general good health. Fortunately she’s eating and drinking ok but I just wish I could make it all better for her, poor baby.

Heidi is the black and white one, the other one is Henrietta

2/02 The vet phoned this afternoon with bad news, Heidi does have lymphoma. We are carrying on with the antibiotics so that she doesn’t catch something else and the vet is looking into options and will phone tomorrow. She didn’t sound too hopeful though and said it was just a matter of when she begins to deteriorate. She did recommend steroids to give her some strength and make her feel better but we’re waiting for tomorrow to find out what other options, if any, we have.

Get praying folks

04/02 The Vet has spoken to an exotic animal specialist from Edinburgh who said the options are steroids twice a day alongside antibiotics, chemo or nothing. After much deliberation on the pros and cons of each option Stuart and I have decided to try her on chemo which involves one injection monthly, the side effects may make her worse but if it is successful then her quality of life should be better for the time she has left. The vet has said we’re looking at about 4 to 6 weeks depending on treatment and things.

05/02 Heidi has had her chemotherapy injection and has been home for about an hour. She seems as well as can be expected, no worse at least. Sadly she’s not eating so we have to syringe some extra calorie food into her mouth and we’ve got to give extra vitamin c in her water but she seems more comfortable. At the moment we have to handle her with rubber gloves on because some of the injection leaked and may be on her skin, it also means that we can’t put her back in the cage with Henrietta either so we’re having to keep them separate for the next 24 hours. I’m hoping against hope that it gives her some strength and quality of life for a little while.

Bathing the Girls

Yes, the highlight of my life at the moment is bathing the girls, I don’t need your judgement!

So, anyway, the other day I decided that the girls hadn’t been washed in a while so I thought “hell, I’ve got time on my hands, that’ll kill some!” and so it did! Henrietta is really not keen on the whole getting wet situation, Heidi on the other hand was more in a “Oh dear lord help me, I’m going to die” panic! Happily, I did manage to get them both washed and dried without any injuries to anyone involved and let’s face it, this blog is just an excuse to post adorable picture of them all wet!

Well yesterday at 9am we (my mother, the guinea pigs and I) left our lovely little house in the UK and headed off to France. The trip down to Portsmouth was fabulous, no traffic jams or anything. On the ferry we went to see “Xmen Origins: Wolverine” which was pretty good, more of a boy film than the rest of the Xmen films. Ferry went very quickly too and soon we arrived in Caen. Me arriving in Portsmouth

Off we went after customs examined us and checked the Guinea Pigs weren’t secretly stashed with drugs or something! To our surprise there was actually roadworks in France! :O I have never seen them before but they were very organised and running smoothly: French Roadworks

We finally arrived home at about 11:40 and unpacked the car, settled the girls in and had a cuppa. Sadly, in my state of tiredness I managed to put salt in my tea instead of sugar, that was an experience! I would not recommend it to anyone else though, it has even given me an ulscer! However after a good(ish) nights sleep I feel much more refreshed and ready to enjoy my holidays. Sadly I forgot to bring a big teddy and a pillow is just not the same šŸ˜¦ I’m such a kid!

Anyway, today I have been relaxing. I have unpacked all mine and Stuart’s stuff into drawers and onto hangers so He can settle straight in when he arrives on Friday. I can’t wait to see Him! Hopefully we will be having a barbeque but the weather says thunderstorms at the moment. I don’t care though because at t

To France

Yesterday we (my mum, the guinea pigs and I) left my lovely home in the UK for my parent’s home in France. We left at 9am and arrived an hour early at the ferry, thankfully there was no problems on the way which made a nice change from the usual roadworks and throngs of traffic! We saw “Xmen Origins: Wolverine” at the cinema on the ferry, we had the whole cinema to ourselves! The film was good though, not as good as the other Xmen films though, much more of a boy film with all the action sequences and special effects but still pretty good. The ferry went quickly and soon we arrived in Caen to a beautiful sunset (which I will have to upload later as my external hard drive isn’t plugged in at the moment).

Me arriving in Portsmouth

The drive on the other side was fairly boring as it was late when we got off the ferry and we didn’t arrive at the french house til about 11:40 pm. The French actually had roadworks going on :O They are the first I have seen in France but they were still very organised and everything was running smoothly, makes you wonder why it isn’t the same in England! *sigh*

French Roadworks

After unpacking the car and getting the guinea pigs settled we sat down to have a cup of tea and relax, sadly, due to my tiredness from the long days travelling I managed to put salt in my tea šŸ˜¦ Definitely not to be recommended as an alternative to sugar and it has given me an ulcer! I didn’t sleep as well as I hoped, mainly due to my own stupidity of not bringing a big teddy and a pillow just doesn’t cut it šŸ˜¦ Hopefully I will sleep better tonight though, if only because I’m so tired!

I am really looking forward to Friday when Stuart is arriving though šŸ˜€ hopefully we will be have a barbeque although at the moment the weather is saying there will be thunderstorms. I don’t care though, I just can’t wait to see Him! Am loving being surrounded by dogs again too, hopefully Rupert and Stuart will get on, Stewart loves Him already!
